Self Love
Do You, Love YOU?

How Many Ways to Say ... "I Love Me!"
(c) 2007 Viveca Stone-Berry

Self-Love shows up in the little, daily happenings. It shows up in how I care for myself and go about enjoying the gift of life and all the opportunities for Love it has to offer.

I figure I know I am Loving Me when ...

1. I feed myself delicious, healthy food starting with the Blueberry Oatmeal Energize! vs. coffee for breakfast, something fast for lunch and who knows what for dinner.

2. I married a man who adores me, Loves me, likes me and supports me instead of ....

3.  I put myself in bed by 9:00 p.m. and get a full 8 hours of sleep instead of getting by on as little as possible.

4.  I surround myself with healthy friends who Love, respect, support and inspire me vs. bar room friends or second guessing friends or energy vampire friends or ...

5. I make time to pray and pause during the course of my days to connect with spirit vs getting by on self-will and trying to control everything on my own. Note: Prayer works particularly well on the golf course!

6. I exercise and “shake it up” with different activities to keep it fun and fresh. Just added stretching every night before I go to bed.

7. Discipline myself and set up healthy boundaries vs. constantly overextending myself personally and professionally and ending up on my last nerve (and everyone else's!)

8. I “bookend,” literally, each day with an inspirational reading and fill my mind with hope and my spirit with sweet dreams and expectations instead of "news," gossip, crime, murder & mayhem!

9. I get rid of clothes that no longer look good on me instead of trying to make what looked good in the past fit me in the present.

10. Go to the dentist three times a year because it hurts less if I do. My comfort is worth the extra time and money vs. skimping and reliving that marathon man scene ...

11. I handle uncomfortable situations as quickly as possible vs. avoiding conflicts and  building up  resentments, debts, illnesses or self-destructive “imagininings” in my mind.

12.  I read the comics or tune into something funny vs. being so serious about everything, everyone, all-the-time.

13. Make a point to doing things well vs perfectly because I know that perfectionism is a form of self-abuse.

Your Turn! Send me your tips, insights, pearls and I'll post them here.
Let's get to twenty - then thirty - then forty - then ... How many ways, do you suppose, there are to say & show "I LOVE ME!"
I can't wait to see what good comes out of this!

14.  A problem often arises when we love our neighbor as we love OURSELVES ... Oops, no wonder we can sometimes treat others with so little kindness and compassion. The solution lies where it always can be found: WITHIN." ~Chelle Thompson, Editor www.InspirationLine.com; from Love & Approve of Yourself:  http://www.inspirationline.com/EZINE/26MAY2003.htm

15.  Think positive thoughts about myself and my situation.  Your thinking shapes your character. "As a man thinketh in his heart so is he..." (Proverbs 23:7). -Cathy, www.paris-eiffel-tower-news.com

16. I take myself out to enjoy movies my children and husband don't care to see.

17. I fill my stomach with delicious, nourishing food. I do not allow dangerous trans fats, high fructose corn syrup or other manufactured products to enter my body.

18. I read for pleasure.

19. I visualize achieving my goals while listening to my favorite music and working out on my treadmill.

20. I surround myself with people who love me and enjoy my successes.

21. I avoid people who gossip.

22. I do things that scare me a little (public speaking, for example) just to prove to myself that I can.

23. In response to your question, I simply do the things that I love to do and that I know make me feel great.  What are these?  The usual hobbies and interests and beauty pampering, then there is spending time with my daughter, family and friends (I'm a single parent) - This keeps me enormously grounded.  I try my hardest at work (full time manager in pharmaceuticals) and most importantly I listen to my body which is very good at letting me know when I am trying too hard to do too much! Love, -G."

24. What I do... I normally drive an SUV. However, when on quick trips, I rent a racy little sports car so that I can feed my alter ego. I buy berries and fresh food whenever possible I plan "spa" trips to regain my spirit and energy. Amazing what a great facial, massage and body wrap can do! - Anonymous Contribution

25.  Nothing says self-love to me better than a life of balance…and chocolate.  What does that mean?  It means instead of eating a pound of high sugar, high fat chocolate every time I’m feeling down, I might treat myself to a couple ounces of deep, dark, gorgeous 70% chocolate on a regular basis.  Even better, I might indulge while I’m having a pedicure or ... 26. I listen to music constantly. There is a song for my every emotion. Rock, blues, reggae, classical, celtic, you name it, I love it. Some songs make me want to go out and get in a little trouble! Others bring me peace and help me relax. I give myself the gift of music every day. Yes- there is a song in my heart!

27. I exercise outdoors every other day, in all seasons. There is no better feeling than the sun beating down on my face and shoulders. I love the privilege of being able to move my body. Imagine if one day, you woke up and weren't able to move anymore? We take so much for granted... just move. Use your muscles. It feels good. I do that for myself.

28. I do things "the hard way" sometimes. I'll pick up something heavy even if there's a big, brawny man standing by. I'll bake a homemade chocolate cake for a friend's birthday even though I could easily run out and buy one at the store. If my computer breaks, I'll try to fix it myself, first, if I can. Yes- I do these things for me because I take pleasure in being self-sufficient. When you accomplish something by yourself, it gives you a little high and makes life interesting.

Thank you Dina! Give her a visit at http://Wordfeeder.com for your Copywriting and Marketing Needs ...

29.  I'm a firm believer that thoughts become things, so I surround myself with positive energy. I read biographies of ordinary people just like I am who do or have done amazing things. At the end of each day, I write down the good things, and only the good things, which have happened that day or that I've done. I have a goals and reinforcements journal which I use to write down my daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly goals. I check in every day to highlight those I've accomplished. It's a powerful feeling to know you're achieving your dreams just by your own hard work!

30.  When we truly care for ourselves, it becomes possible to care far more profoundly about other people. The more alert and sensitive we are to our own needs, the more loving and generous we can be toward others. ~-Eda LeShan~

31.  To Love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance. - Oscar Wilde

32.  There is no duty we so much underrate as the duty of being happy. By being happy we sow anonymous benefits upon the world. -Robert Louis Stevenson <<What are you doing to bring love and happiness to yourself today?>>

33.  I accept compliments cheerfully and revel in my accomplishments
34.  I allow myself to make mistakes and don't kick myself for it - I learn from them, apologize sincerely where necessary, make whatever amends I can, and move on
35.  I work to make other people feel good about who they are and what they've done
36.  I treat others with respect and try and make them feel better for having interacted with me.
37.  I have things I LOVE to do on my daily to-do list mixed in with all the things I HAVE to do
38.  I hug my kids and my husband often.
39.  I practice a vibrant faith.

20 Ways To Promote Self-Love

  1. Get Connected. Never stop learning about yourself and Love. Read, tune into tele-seminars, join a church or community organization that focuses on Love, attend workshops (I spent last weekend at a “Self-Love/Healthy Relationship” workshop. Fantastic!)

  2. Give Love. Volunteer your Love. Is there a neighbor who could use a helping hand? A meal you could deliver to a friend in need with a smile and a hug? Time at an animal shelter walking dogs?

  3. Journal. Understand yourself. Uncover what is blocking your Love and what is bringing you Love (so you can do more of
    that!)

  4. Look yourself in the eye. Stand in front of the mirror every morning and tell yourself how much you love, respect and accept yourself. You are beautiful. Don't forget to mention that!

     5.  Diet & Exercise. It is easier to enjoy your day, you, when you are well nourished on the inside and your body feels strong, moves well

     6.  Do what you Love. If you Love to weave baskets, weave away no matter what anyone says.

     7.  Notice and be grateful for the mini-miracles.  For me it is the sunset reflected in the pond outback, eating a perfectly cooked chicken, seeing bluebirds out my office window, a reliable car, Pooch Cafe, not getting a parking ticket when I way overstayed my visit!  Find out what it is for you.

     8. Time to groom yourself. Fingernails, toenails, hair, make up plus a splash of your favorite perfume. All of this and you’re not going out … It’s not trouble, it is self-Love.

     9. Get a GREAT Night's Sleep. Whatever it takes! Bubble baths, lavender on my pillow, sex, a glass of warm milk ... (self-Love is easier when we feel good in our skin.)

     10. Delaying the first cup of coffee and keeping my nerves a little calmer.

     11. Staying connected with my beloved friends and family. Phone calls, post cards, little "thinking of you" gifts ...

     12. Gifting myself new friends.

     13. Hanging out with people who are great at Love.  I started the Get Ready For Love! Radio Show to learn “how to.” Every week I
interviewed someone who was successful at Loving themselves and others. Who are you hanging with?

     14. Slowing down to feel more, notice more and be more loving.

     15.  What about you?
